Established in Mount Hagen in 1967, J & B Gilsenan (trading as Gilsenan Melpa) began operations building commercial, industrial and residential buildings and providing building maintenance and plumbing services to the larger community.
In 1970 Gilsenan Melpa opened the first sheet-metal workshop.
In 1978 Gilsenan Melpa opened its first hardware and plumbing store before expanding to Mendi (Southern Highlands) and opening its second hardware store as well as a supermarket and haberdashery.
In 1985 Gilsenan Melpa won the contract to construct the Hagen Plaza, the newest and largest project to be undertaking in Hagen at that time.
In 2010 Gilsenan Melpa expanded its business into Rotational Molding of Polyethylene water tanks. GM has supplied thousands of tanks into the Highlands region.
In 2016 GM purchased Roll-forming machines for making C-Purlins, Palisade Fencing and Barbwire.
To make way for future developments and proactive company restructuring, GM is now liquidating its hardware stocks. This is a great opportunity for new players in the hardware game to capitalize on this once in a lifetime chance.
